Posh Restaurant, Scottsdale -- Yvonne's Pick November 2012

Halibut cheek, Japanese octopus, wild boar bacon--not the usual suspects. But this was not a usual dining experience!

Posh Restaurant along Scottsdale Road was Yvonne's November pick. "Improvisational Cuisine" is the restaurant's self-described dining experience, and the format followed its billing.

Providing us with a list of the main proteins from which the chef would be selecting, our waiter asked each us to cross off our individual limits for that evening's five-course meal. As a pescatarian, Yvonne allowed the fluke, hum-hum oysters, octopus, and trout to remain. Kara and Amy were more adventurous, allowing most of the quasi-exotic proteins, and Emily elected a default cheese platter (although house-made and elegant) for one of her courses, unsure she was ready for all of the potential surprises that evening! Other than this input, we four diners had no say in the food delivered to us throughout the evening. None. You simply trust the Chef to prepare delicious food just for you! Ah...except for the spirits. Amy chose a local beer, while Kara Yvonne and Em shared a bottle of pinot noir.

Our pre-first-course, the amuse bouche, was a sea-based flavor bundle. The appetizer followed, then three protein courses were served. Each dish of each course, often unique at the table, was explained to its recipient by the server. We found the portions appropriate and satisfying, if slightly smaller than one might expect at a more traditional restaurant. Each of us then received a different, delightful dessert. Then a fresh frozen little lime pop (love me some lime) was served at the end to close the palate, along with a delivery of four sweet little cookie sets to bring home!

More detail and photos to follow, but for now we can report we were happy we adventured into Posh Restaurant''s "Improvisional Cuisine" scene.
